REFLECTION #3: Due Date: Nov. 8, 2023 Total: 14 marks BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular diseases are a leading cause of mortality worldwide. The effect of diet on cardiovascular disease has generated tremendous interest in the field of nutritional sciences. While we know that diet is an important risk factor in CVD, there is much debate about what is the "best" diet for heart health. Traditionally, diets high in saturated fats, trans fat, and cholesterol have been linked to heart disease and atherosclerosis Compiled results of recent studies have led to the following conclusions: 1. Intake of diets high in saturated fat were associated with a lower risk of total mortality. 2. Increased risk of cardiovascular mortality was associated with intake of diets high in carbohydrates. (ex: >50% calories from CHO) These findings are contradictory to the current guidelines recommended by Canada’s Food Guide. Based on lecture notes, textbook readings and today’s class discussion answer the questions below and submit as a word doc or PDF.
